8th Grade Pre-Algebra class
In the 8th grade math class we will be covering Pre-Algebra to prepare students for Algebra next year. This class will lay the foundation for the main topics such as variables, one step and two step equations. Also solving systems of equations both Algebraically and Geometrically will maybe covered. |
Grading Scale:
90 - 100% A 80 - 89% B 70 - 79% C 60 - 69% D 0 - 59% E |
Notebook
Students will be responsible for their own three ring binder and note completion. The notebooks will be checked every Friday for completed notes from the week and any other items we may put in. A grade will be given based on neatness and legibility. The idea is that the student will have a completed book on math by the end of the semester that can be referenced as they progress on their math career. |

If all of my students already knew the material, they would not be in my class. In other words, people are going to be wrong in my class. Never shall we make fun of someone or snicker at someone for giving a wrong answer. We will be supportive and help any other students that may be struggling. This helps build a positive learning environment.
Notes (15%)
Each Friday notes from the week will be checked in. Notes are evaluated on neatness, legibility and completeness. Students will be responsible for any missed notes due to absences in the week.
Homework (20%)
Homework will typically be assigned, with some class time to complete. The student must show work to get full credit for completing problems. Just giving a solution does not necessarily show you have an understanding of the problem. In addition, circle your answers as well.
Assessments (60%)
Quizzes will be given after every three sections or so. After two quizzes (5-6 sections) there will be a review (handed in for a grade) and a test on those sections. The test will typically mimic the quizzes in content and structure.
*Retakes will be available, once, upon a failing grade. However, the student must complete an assignment to earn a re-take.

Week 1: Sept. 13 - Sept. 17
Here we are starting a new school year. While this will not be a regular school year, we are going to try our best to make it feel like every other year. Being that last year (7th Grade) was cut short, there will be a review section the first week of the year. This will be a review with some new topics.
